Emission compensation through this project comes from clean electricity generated in the Chilean Punta Palmeras wind farms. About the facilities They produce clean energy for about 60,000 Chilean homes, meaning an annual emission avoidance of 119,000 t CO2 eq. to the atmosphere. It can be considered equivalent to importing about 215,000 barrels of oil to generate the same energy. Socially and environmentally committed ACCIONA, in addition to mitigating climate change through the production of clean energy, is committed to the Sustainable Development Goals by carrying out activities that generate a positive impact on the communities and biodiversity near our facilities. Therefore, by purchasing reduction certificates of this project, you would be contributing to a more sustainable world. In Canela municipality, more than € 300,000 up to now have been invested to improve the quality of more than 58,000 people’s lives, as projects are maintained with a specific annual budget. Some of our ODS initiatives: Promotion and conditioning of a fishing area for self-consumption: One of the outstanding initiatives of the work carried out with the local artisanal fishermen is the Productive Development program for Caleta Maitencillo, which will improve the conditions of the cove, and enhance the fishing activity that takes place in it, making a social investment in the middle and long-term with real possibilities of self-sufficiency. Until 2019, 60 fishermen have been benefited. Safety equipment donation: To facilitate rescue tasks, Acciona Energy delivered complete extraction equipment to help firefighters carry out their mission more effectively and quickly, thus benefiting all the inhabitants of the area. Secure communications in the region: Rural radio in the Canela municipality represents the main means of communication among the most isolated inhabitants and becomes a vital instrument in emergencies. Photovoltaic panels were installed to provide electrical support to Radio Asunción, in Canela, to achieve autonomy in the event of a power outage. Revegetation and wildlife conservation plan: Plan for the flora in vulnerable conservation category such as Bahia Ambrosioides and endangered as Jubaea Chilensis. Both are endemic plants from Chile. The control and monitoring of populations of Chiroptera have also been carried out to prevent them from being negatively affected by this project.
