BUKIT RIGIS COMMUNITY FOREST PROJECT
Indonesia
Sobre el proyecto
There was a time when community coffee plantation was considered a threat to protection forest sustainability. This is what happened to Register 45 Bukit Rigis Protection Forest area in Lampung Province. The community’s coffee planting activities in this area started in 1960s. Population growth and igration were the reason behind the expanding community coffee plantation However, since the time the community was granted with forest management concessions, they have become motivated to practice conservation. One of their conservation efforts is development of multi-strata coffee plantation, agroforestry, and agricultural practices that comply with soil and water conservation principles. Finally in the past five decades, the label of ‘forest encroacher’ once pinned to them slowly turned into ‘forest conservator’. Purpose and Objective • To build capacity in Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) by enriching plant species to maintain the carbon stock. • To foster knowledge on multi-strata coffee planta- tion management that guarantees forest protection functions and increases family incomes.
